Ever since I was a little girl I set goals for myself.  The first one I can remember was setting a goal to earn enough money ($15 to be exact) to buy the perfect pair of black fringe boots.pexels-photo-733857.jpegAs an adult I put this same concept to use with a simple methodology which I will share with you, this technique has been successful for me over the past 7 years and I hope you will find the same. While I titled these “Resolutions” I feel like New Years Resolutions get a bad rap and are thought about as things to stop doing OR the empty goal to “Lose 10 pounds”, my approach is different and focuses on doing new things that fulfill you, please read on to learn my 5 simple tips.

Spa Days

1)  Gone are the days of STOPPING/LOSING, focus on DOING something and make that something FUN. A staple resolution for me over the past few years is to DO 4 SPA DAYS. By putting this on my list every year I make sure to spend that me time relaxing and can also generate support from my family.

2) If you want to start a new habit focus on a small weekly goal BUT frame it as 52x WORKOUTS W/ FRIENDS. The first year I tried this I said FLOSS 1x per WEEK (I know you flossers out there are grossed out that this was even a goal but I am terrible at flossing) as soon as I missed a week (which was in February) I quit flossing for the rest of the year since I had already broken my resolution. By setting the goal as doing something 52x you can always catch up if you miss a week or a month.IMG_57923)  Stick to no more than 5 goals, write them down, and focus them on different buckets of your life. It also helps to make them “SMART” Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound. 2x FAMILY VACATIONS was an important goal for me since I work so much and need to focus on making more time for my family. Think about all areas of your life that are important, for me it’s: Family/Children, Me Time/Relaxation, Sports/Fitness, Friends, Volunteering, and Creativity I try to make sure my goals play to each one of those areas.Desk 12.28.174) Do something that scares you. For 2018 STARTING A BLOG is that thing that scares/excites me. In years past that thing was a physical activity like SKI TUCKERMANS REVINE, or RUN A MARATHON, whatever it is write it down, ask your family for support, and go get it!

5) Reflect at the end of each year on where you succeeded and where you missed.  This year I was not successful at NO PHONE/EMAIL M-F 5-8PM, since this goal contradicts my first tip I am planning to re-write this as something to DO which would have the same effect CHARGE MY PHONE M-F 5-8PM to try to achieve this for the next year. Finally, give yourself permission to miss, generally I get 4 of my 5 goals which to me feels pretty darn good.

So in full transparency here were my 2017 Goals and what I am planning to accomplish in 2018:

❎ No Phone/Email M-F 5-8pm

✅ 2x Family Vacations

✅ Promotion

✅ 4x Spa Days

✅ 52 workouts with Friends

⚪ Charge my iPhone M-F 5-8pm

⚪ Volunteer 4x at Parker & Dawson’s School

⚪ Start a Blog

⚪ 4x Spa Days (this has just become a staple)

⚪ 52 Core workouts

So, on that note, thank you for reading and helping me jump start my 2018 Resolution to Start a Blog.

Please share your 2018 goals below to help inspire others!

After a decade in Boston at New Balance, we moved to Vermont where I lead a portfolio of strategic coffee partners at Keurig. I cannot wait to share our outdoor adventures in Vermont sprinkled with some fun lessons in work/life integration, taking care of yourself, organization, and being a boy Mom.
